What is REACH?
REACH is the name of the gifted and talented program in Hillsborough Township.
It is an acronym for
Reach, Explore Academic and Creative Heights.
In first and second grade, all students meet with Mrs. Pedersen, Woodfern School's REACH teacher, for forty minutes each six-day cycle. Thinking skills such as analysis, problem solving, imagination, fluency, flexibility and synthesis are addressed through REACH lessons in these grades.
At the end of second grade, all students are screened for possible participation in the REACH program in grade 3. The third and fourth grade REACH programs are for identified students. Students are pulled out from their third and fourth grade classes and are given small group instruction for 160-165 minutes each six-day cycle. REACH lessons in these grades continue to address specific thinking skills including: fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, imagination, analysis, synthesis, evaluation, problem solving, decision making, self-awareness, communication, research techniques and self-directed learning.
