Tansitional Primary students have music class for one forty minute period each six day cycle. In the beginning of the year we spend a lot of time learning to feel comfortable with singing and moving together with various songs, activities and games which provide readiness experiences for later music concepts, knowledge and understandings.
Some of the songs and games are a review of ones we learned in Kindergarten, but with the smaller class size and the fact that most of the children recall the songs and experiences from the previous year, we can extend learning with discussion and more individualized instruction. We also learn new songs and participate in many activities that only transitional primary students have the opportunity to learn and experience.
As the year progresses, we begin to prepare for and perform in a concert on the stage. The Transitional Primary students join the kindergarteners for this experience. This provides an excellent opportunity for the children to participate in a very special activity with the students who will be their classmates next year. This concert will be in March. All children are encouraged to participate.
